Born and raised in his native village, Mbuukiro, Central Uganda, East Africa, Alfdaniels Mabingo realized that he was already dancing and drumming during his early childhood. With strong foundation in his traditional music and dance practices, he has developed a career as a traditional performer, teacher, writer, drummer, and researcher of artistic practices from East Africa. Mabingo has taught dance and given lectures in communities and academic settings in different countries in Africa, the U.S., Australia, Germany, The Islands of the Bahamas, and New Zealand. A holder of BA in dance and MA in Performing Arts (Dance), both from Makerere University and MA in Dance Education from New York University, he is currently teaching East African dances and pursuing his PhD in Dance Studies at the University of Auckland. His workshop approach combines drum rhythms, voice, singing, storytelling and dancing within a framework of collective learning and sharing.
